Who is eligible to apply for NFI Cares?

NFI employees in good standing and immediate family members (spouse, parents, or children) of an NFI employee in a good standing are eligible to apply to be considered for financial support through NFI Cares after one year of employment.

How often can I apply for an NFI Cares grant?

There is no limit on applications, however, only one grant of assistance may be made to an eligible individual in any rolling 12 month period. 

Note: If you have been granted assistance from the NFI COVID-19 Relief Fund within a full calendar year, you are not eligible for assistance from NFI Cares until that full year has passed.

What is the max amount I can receive?

$1,500 in any rolling 12 month period.

If my application is granted, what form of payment will the grant come in?

Money will not be given to individuals. Any financial assistance provided under NFI Cares will be paid directly to the vendors or third parties that the recipient is obligated to pay.    

How long will it take to get it?

Once submitted, an application will go before the review committee.  Individual circumstances will vary but our goal is to make a determination and pay within one to two weeks.

Is the grant taxable?

The grant with NFI Cares is not taxable income.

Where do I apply?

To apply please complete the form on the apply page or click here to print and send the form to the My-NFI Service Center. Employees can also contact the My-NFI Service Center at 877-696-3409 for help completing the application.  

What are examples of things I can apply?

Qualified individuals can apply for assistance when experiencing financial distress as a result of a catastrophic event such as:

  • Death of an immediate family member
  • Natural disaster (such as wildfire, house/apartment fire, tornado, hurricane or earthquake)
  • Critical illness (must have medical insurance)
  • Military obligations that lead to the deployment of a spouse
  • COVID-19 (not for lost hours)
What shouldn’t I apply for?

Items such as: paying college tuition, student loans, personal credit card debt, vacations, mortgages, ongoing medical expenses, damage or disrepair of vehicle, loss of hours, and court judgements.

Can Canadian Employees receive assistance?

Yes, Canadian employees are eligible to receive assistance. All grants will be in U.S. Dollars.

Is my donation tax deductible?

United States: Under the current U.S. tax laws, donations made to the NFI Cares program are tax deductible. Payroll donations are taken out post-tax from paychecks but all donations are tax deductible. Donors contributing $250 or more will receive an acknowledgment of donation each year from Helping Hands, the program administrator.

Canada: For a Canadian resident to get relief for a donation to NFI Cares, a qualifying U.S. organization, the employee must have U.S. sourced income. U.S. sourced income would include investment income and capital gains from or in respect of U.S. entities, employment income earned while in the U.S. If a Canadian employee has no U.S. sourced income, there will be no tax relief. You should consult your tax advisor if you have US source income to determine the amount of donation you can deduct.

Do I need to renew my regular payroll deduction each year?

No, deductions will continue until the employees terminates them.

How can I stop or change payroll deductions?

Deductions may be stopped at any time by submitting a request in writing to the My-NFI Service Center at My-NFI@nfiindustries.com.

How do I make a one time payroll deduction?

One-time donations can be made through check or payroll deduction.  The payroll deduction form is available on the donate page or by printing this form and sending it to the My-NFI Service Center. Donations can also be made via check.

What will my donation go to?

Donations made to NFI Cares will go to supporting employees and immediate family members experiencing financial distress as a result of a catastrophic event.

Can my donation go to a specific cause?

No, however the committee will review each application on a case by case basis for financial need as a result of a catastrophic event.  

How do I know my money is going to someone who needs it?

The committee will review each application on a case by case basis for financial need as a result of a catastrophic event. The program administrator, Helping Hands, will also confirm the validity of the applicants and process requests.

Can Canadian employees donate to NFI Cares?

Yes, if you are paid in Canadian dollars (CAD) your payroll deduction will also be in CAD.
